To complement my overly wordy social post here's a simple gameplay post on cat DPS rotation. Notes are for PvE raids at level 70, PvP is different.
Your cat toolbar should have six buttons on it. Mangle, Shred, Rip, Maim, Cower, and Faerie Fire.
The basic cat DPS rotation is Shred Shred Shred Shred Rip. Nothing but shred until 4 or 5 combo points, then Rip. Get behind your mob and shred it, then make it bleed.
Mangle is a necessary evil. The debuff is hugely important because it makes both your Shred and Rip do 30% more damage. So be sure Mangle is always up. If you're lucky enough to have a bear tank you can rely on them to do it, otherwise keep Mangle up yourself. I use the DebuffFilter addon to make a big display right next to the target frame to remind myself.
Do not ever cast Rake or Claw; they waste energy. Remove them from your toolbar so you don't accidentally press those buttons. Tiger's Fury has no purpose either, just yell %26quot;rawr%26quot; over Ventrilo. Ferocious Bite is only useful for goosing your DPS numbers because you want to get that last bit of damage in before something dies; otherwise save the points for Rip. Everything bleeds now.
Maim is useful as a spell interrupt, although it's hard to be sure you have combo points and aren't in cooldown from your last Shred. Faerie Fire is valuable for an extra 2-3% DPS for all your melee. And Cower is surprisingly useful at the start of a fight if you get too many crits and don't have Salvation.
What about opening moves? Not really worth it in raiding. Pounce is often wrong because the stun means the tank can't reposition the mob. Ravage does nice damage but too much threat at the start of a fight. Both openers have their uses, but particularly on a boss fight it's better just to start with a Mangle.
#1 tip: remove Rake and Claw from your toolbar. Best way to boost your cat DPS.
